Dr. Paul Hammerness writes,
"Negative emotions sabotage our brains’ ability to solve problems and ignore distractions, while positive emotions and thoughts actually improve the brain’s executive function."
Our brain is an amazing piece of work. Doctors have discovered that our left brain/hemisphere controls movement in the right side of our body and that the right hemisphere controls the left side.
Further to this they believe that the left hemisphere of our brain is dominantly logical housing our executive, traditional and linear capabilities.
The left brain is the home of rational thinking and is often referred to as the minds ear.
On the other side the right brain houses assets such as fantasy, visualization and our artistic abilities.
The right brain seems to feed on visual imagery, creating mental movies and previews of future events.
Those who are dominantly right brained are creative individuals and are often gifted with insight. We sometimes refer to the right brain as the mind’s eye.
Amidst all of the categorising of people as being visually dominant (right brain), auditory dominant (left brain) or kinaesthetic (mid brain emotional) every human being functions more or less across all three.
The great Leonardo Deviancy was a brilliant right brained sculptor and artist but also a left-brained military strategist and mathematician.
Albert Einstein was unquestionably a left brain physicist, theorist and mathematician but was equally a right brain musician, concert level violinist and more importantly, a self-proclaimed day dreamer.
He’s the guy that went on to say, “Imagination is much more important than knowledge.”
Many of his creative ideas and flashes of insight for new inventions came to him while he was shaving.
Over the next few articles I’ll reveal how you can stimulate your whole brain for goal achievement.
Let's get started with self talk.
