Vision Statement - A Statement About Vision
$1,000,000
Have you heard of the dismemberment policy?
It was a type of life insurance and this is how it worked.
If you were insured for let’s say a million dollars, if you were to lose a little finger on the job, let’s say by accident while using a skill saw, you would be paid out approximately 5% of the payout figure - $50,000.
Under the dismemberment policy, if you lost an arm, you might receive 20% of the payout figure - $200,000.
If you lost two legs on the job you might receive 60% of the payout figure - $600,000.00 and so forth.
What’s interesting about the dismemberment policy is that if you ever lost your sight, your vision, those insurers would pay you out 100% of the dismemberment policy, no questions asked, $1,000,000! Why?
Self Concept - Self Image
Old lady or beautiful young woman?
Take a look at the picture to the left.
Would say that that woman is between let’s say 70 to 95 years of age, an old lady or would say that this she is somewhere from around 18 to about 30 years old?
What we have here is a perceptional scotoma. A scotoma is a blind spot in our vision. A lock on lock out low, low.
Affirmations - Self Talk
"Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."- Philippians 4:8
Psychologists confirm that we ‘self-talk’ between 150 to 1500 words a minute or 45,000 to around 51,000 thoughts a day.
By attaching electrodes to the speech areas of the brain they’ve discovered that we still talk to ourselves even while we sleep!
Goal Setting Theory - How to Set Goals
Imagine landing at Sydney International Airport.
You flag down the first available taxi and the cabbie says, “Where to?”
You reply, “Take me.”
With specifics like that he’ll take you all right!
Likewise, if you don’t know where you’re going in life you’ll probably end up somewhere else.
SMART Goals
S M A R T = Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time sensitive goals.
The S of SMART = Specific
Here’s an unspecific goal, “To own a new car.” That’s a nice goal. Is it possible? Absolutely! But what is a new car? How would you define new?
In other words, what year, what colour, what make, what’s the interior like, what sort of stereo… get specific! Name it, this thing that you desire. For example, “A 1972, red MG convertible with racing stripes and a leather interior” if that’s what turns you on.
What would you get if you were to sit down in a restaurant and when the waitress asks, “Can I take your order?” you reply, “Give me food.” “What sort of food? “Anything will do!”
